About Me
Bridging Communication Gaps: A Decade-Plus of BSL Expertise
With over 12 years of experience as a qualified British Sign Language (BSL) interpreter, I have dedicated my career to addressing and dismantling the communication barriers that Deaf individuals face in the hearing world. Witnessing firsthand the transformative potential of technology in breaking down these barriers, I am committed to leveraging these advancements for the betterment of the Deaf community.
Professional Journey
From the inception of my career, language and BSL have been at the core of my pursuits. My doctoral research delved into the pivotal role of language in fostering social and emotional skills in Deaf children. Over the years, my professional journey has encompassed roles as a Psychology lecturer, a Research Fellow, an Assistant Psychologist within a High-Security Hospital’s Deaf unit, culminating in achieving the status of a qualified BSL Interpreter.
Pioneering QR Code Technology
In 2011, I envisioned the use of QR codes to facilitate access to BSL translations of written information—a concept that, with time and the backdrop of a global pandemic, has now become mainstream. Recognising the opportune moment, I am eager to introduce this innovative use of technology to its fullest potential, promoting independence and equality for all.
